Why Reno: Ghosting around the Reno/Tahoe area

Client Connection

It’s that time of year again, the leaves and temperatures are falling as we stock up on candy and celebrate the ancient Celtic custom of donning costumes, warding off ghosts and bagging some treats.  Here are a couple of fun ways to enjoy Halloween in the Reno/Tahoe area.

The Historical Haunted Tour in Truckee is both very entertaining and educational. Wind around the streets of Truckee and enter establishments where you’ll meet some of the area’s spooktacular characters and learn their stories as reenacted by local actors. Though already sold out for this year, now’s the time to plan for the 2020 event. Join their mailing list to get a head’s up at http://www.truckeehistorytour.org/, as tickets go on sale July 4th, 2020 for next year’s tour.  Please note this is a 21 and older event.

With its storied past, Virginia City is fun most any time of year. Hauntober brings out the ghost hunter in all of us as the city hosts continuous events for kids of all ages. Some of the happenings through the rest of the month include a haunted tour of the famous Mackey Mansion, a walking tour of the city’s favorite haunts as well as a paranormal investigation for those so inclined.  For a truly unique time for the family, bring the kids to participate in the Goblin Halloween Parade that includes safe trick-or-treating at the shops along the boardwalk. CLICK HERE to view the schedule of events, including contact info to make reservations. You can also check out the Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures series which did a number of episodes on Virginia City.  Do a search on Virginia City Ghost Adventure and learn things you never knew about VC!

Happy Halloween and make it a fun and safe October!

SFG Library: Intellectual Capital Reads

Here at SFG, we support an ongoing educational culture. One of the ways we do this is holding an employee book club meeting several times per year to share about nonfiction books we’ve read. Additionally, we keep a library of books in our conference room — anyone is welcome to comb through it and take a book home! These books all relate to one of our Four Capitals — Financial, Physical, Intellectual, and Psychological — and offer insight into the approach we are so committed to. Here is a list of the books we currently have related to Intellectual Capital.

Assignment of Benefits: Avoiding Contract Scams

Any time a client has a property loss that requires contractor engagement – and even more so following a natural disaster that creates an overabundance of restoration work in a specific region – homeowners should be wary of the Assignment of Benefits (AOB) clause in a contractor’s agreement.
