What We’re Reading

Here at SFG, we support an ongoing educational culture. One of the ways we do this is holding an employee book club meeting several times per year to share about nonfiction books we’ve read. Additionally, we keep a library of books in our conference room — anyone is welcome to comb through it and take a book home! These books all relate to one of our Four Capitals — Financial, Physical, Intellectual, and Psychological — and offer insight into the approach we are so committed to.

Next time you’re here, be sure to peruse and choose something that could be helpful to you. Below are all of the books we currently have related to Intellectual Capital, and the other capital overviews will be shared in the coming months.

Keep Your Brain Alive: By Lawrence Katz & Manning Rubin

This book is about Neurobics which is a unique brain exercise program that can be done anytime, anywhere. The simple exercise stimulates brain nutrients to help new brain cells grow. To keep your brain strong and healthy, you need to break routines and use all five senses in unexpected ways.

Making A Good Brain Great: By Daniel G. Amen, M.D.

This book provides you the tools you need to optimize your brain power and enrich your health and your life in the process. This book will teach you:
• How to eat right to think right
• How to protect your brain from injuries and toxic substances
• How to nourish your brain with vitamins and do mental workouts to keep it strong
• The critical component of physical exercise, and which kinds work best
• How to rid your brain of negative thoughts, counteract stress, and much more.

Total Memory Workout: By Cynthia R. Green PhD

This book is about how to make the most of your memory. The author shares her eight-step program for improving recall. For example – Do you sometimes enter a room and forget what you went there for? Do you find yourself struggling to remember details from an important meeting? Are you constantly misplacing your keys or glasses? If your answer is yes to any of these questions, then this book may be helpful!

Start with Why: By Simon Sinek

This book shows that the leaders who’ve had the greatest influence in the world all think, act, and communicate the same way — and it’s the opposite of what everyone else does. Sinek calls this powerful idea The Golden Circle, and it provides a framework upon which organizations can be built, movements can be led, and people can be inspired. And it all starts with your WHY.

The Other Side of the Sky: By Richard Ehrlich

This book is about true art and science. The images are actual Malibu sky photography. Conceptual art has been a driving force of the imagination and one’s creativity. There are beautiful abstract images to enjoy in this book. Let your mind wander!

The Mind Diet: By Maggie Moon

This book is about keeping your brain 7 years younger. Having a high quality of life is a way of keeping your brain alive. The Mind Diet explains the science about being mentally fit. This book has a step by step eating program for keeping your mind sharp and avoiding harmful foods for the brain. It is packed with delicious recipes that will help improve the memory, concentration and mental acuity.

SFG Gives Back to Ronald McDonald House Charities Northern Nevada

As a part of the Ronald McDonald House Charities Chef Program, volunteers from the community come together to provide guests with a home-cooked meal each night. In June 2019, SFG had the opportunity to prepare a home-cooked, healthy dinner for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. After SFG dropped off the meal, we received a tour and learned how the Ronald McDonald House services families in need.
