Wellness in the Workplace
A vital part of the Four Capital approach is our dedication to wellness. One of the ways SFG commits to physical capital management is by making sure our office has a positive and refreshing atmosphere. For instance, we recently invested in adjustable standing desks for our team members. This allows movement throughout the day and encourages proper posture. If you find yourself slouching during the workday, here are a few tips to improve your posture according to Harvard Medical School:
- Keep your chin parallel to the floor
- Your shoulders should be even (roll your shoulders up, back, and down to help achieve this)
- Keep a neutral spine (no flexing or arching to overemphasize the curve in your lower back)
- Your arms should be at your sides with elbows straight and even
- Brace your abdominal muscles
- Keep your hips and knees even
- Distribute your weight evenly on both feet
Our firm can also be frequently found participating in a yoga class or walking around the block at lunch. Even short breaks from workflow allows your brain to refresh and refocus. Jack Groppel, a Ph.D. in exercise physiology notes, “research shows that the more you move, the more oxygen and blood flows to the brain, and the better you solve problems.”
Another method we employ to embrace wellness is our passion for plants. Scattered throughout the office, you’ll find succulents and a variety of leafy friends. This greenery is more than just aesthetically pleasing. A study at Washington State University found that working in an area with plants can contribute towards 12 percent more productivity and a drop in stress levels. Plants also contribute to air quality, which helps keep us healthy.
All of these items are just a few ways we embrace wellness at SFG, and we encourage our clients to do the same!
