Northern Nevada offers outdoor activities year-round. In the winter, many locals enjoy skiing and snowboarding at the nearby ski resorts. You can even visit a snowy trail for a snowshoe outing. Chickadee Ridge is a mild trek. It begins at the forest line of the southwest side of the Mount Rose Meadows. There are easy trails to follow and the avalanche risk in the area is low. Therefore, the route is great for novice snowshoers. After trekking through the forest and ascending the snowy slopes, snowshoers are greeted by a panoramic view of Lake Tahoe.
We had fun feeding the mountain chickadees in the forest and pausing at the ridgeline to enjoy the view. Jennifer, Alyssa, and Tony had all snowshoed before, but this was William’s first time trying the sport. Everyone had fun and enjoyed the morning outing. Taking the morning to snowshoe and enjoy the great outdoors improves our physical well-being as well as our psychological space.
