Why Reno: Snowshoeing

At Schultz Financial Group we view wealth differently through our Four Capital approach. Our team works with you to build your wealth across Four Capitals – Financial Matters, Physical Well-being, Intellectual Engagement, and Psychological Space. Reno snowshoeing is a great way to boost your physical well-being!

Reno is located near the Sierra Nevada Mountains and is a short drive from Lake Tahoe. Reno snowshoeing is one of the area’s main attractions. The mountains provide many miles of hiking trails and, in the winter, the Sierras provide seemingly endless opportunities to snowshoe.

Snowshoes help distribute your weight over a larger surface area to prevent your feet from sinking into the deep snow. Reno snowshoeing is a fun winter activity for any age and any fitness level. Before you venture out on your first snowshoeing adventure, consider consulting an experienced friend or going on a group tour. Do your research about the trail you plan to embark on and be aware of weather and avalanche risks. This Beginner’s Guide to Snowshoeing may be helpful, too!

Perhaps the most popular snowshoe trail for Reno locals is Chickadee Ridge. This trail begins on the southwest the Mount Rose Meadows. Follow the forest line along the meadow for about half a mile then turn right into the trees. Aim to follow the path packed down by snowshoers and backcountry skiers who came before you and make your way toward the ridgeline. Keep your ears alert as the forest is filled with mountain chickadees. If you are patient, you can reach your birdseed-filled hand out and watch chickadees land for a treat. Cresting Chickadee Ridge is worth the mild effort as the top provides sweeping views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding mountain peaks.

If you have tried snowshoeing a few times and you are hankering for a new trail to explore, try 50 of the Best Snowshoe Trails Around Lake Tahoe. This book was written by a Reno local and gives many options for your next winter adventure.
