On August 3, 2018 SFG’s Russ, Vicki, and Alyssa attended Pageant of the Masters®, which is part of Laguna Beach’s Festival of Arts. Pageant of the Masters® is an eye-opening presentation of tableaux vivants (living pictures). The living pictures are recreations of classical and contemporary works of art, with real people posing to look exactly like their counterparts in the original pieces. In addition to enjoying the living works of art, attendees enjoy a live orchestra with an original score as well as Laguna Beach’s fresh ocean air in the outdoor amphitheater.

The theme for 2018 was “Under the Sun” which represents artists who left their studios to find new inspiration. This year’s show celebrated the 85th anniversary of living pictures at the Festival of Arts as well as the 100th anniversary of the Laguna Art Museum. The first act featured many local artists, and the second featured more well-known artists such as Claude Monet, Joaquín Sorolla, and Leonardo da Vinci.

The live narration guides attendees through the history of each art presentation and sheds some light on how the live paintings are constructed to look like the originals, which you can see in the photos below. It’s quite amazing. The evening concluded — as it does each year — with a fantastic recreation of Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper.

Pageant of the Masters® is a truly unique way to experience art and the Schultz Financial Group team is glad to have attended it this year. Seeing works of art come to life on the Festival of Arts stage was an excellent way to spend the evening. If you are in Laguna Beach during the summer months, be sure to schedule time for Pageant of the Masters®. You can learn more about Festival of Arts by visiting their website: www.foapom.com.

Monitoring Inflation and Inflation Expectations (Phillips Curve)

For the first time since the data collection began in 2002, there are more job openings in the US than there are people unemployed (see chart below). We are currently in the second-longest economic expansion in our history, and if it continues through July 2019, it will become the longest. This has led to a period of prolonged job creation, which has driven down the unemployment level below four percent.
