Why Reno: The Music Scene

Why Reno: The Music Scene

Client Connection

Northern Nevada’s music scene is “Alive and Kicking” (props to Simple Minds!). From local open mic nights to international A Listers, there’s something for every taste throughout the year, especially in the summer. If you’re a fan of music in the great outdoors, the Reno/Tahoe area has you covered.

As with most communities, local pubs and special events are the place to see local acts hone their craft. Venues like Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor in Reno host local and regional acts throughout the year. The special events calendar also showcases classic acts still on the circuit. For example, the 2019 Great Eldorado BBQ, Brews and Blues Festival held downtown in mid-June every year, featured the 80’s synth pop rockers, Berlin, 70’s funk band, War and perennial blues favorite, Elvin Bishop.

One of the best outdoor venues around is Harvey’s Outdoor Arena in South Lake Tahoe. You can’t beat the location for a day on the lake followed by an evening of top tier entertainment. For a more intimate outdoor setting, the 1500 seat TJ’s Corral at the Carson Valley Inn is just the ticket. A great variety of talent (2019 shows include Pat Benatar and Loverboy) and reasonably priced tickets makes this a yearly favorite for locals and visitors alike. Plenty of parking and a great view from every seat.

If you’re into country, Northern Nevada’s your place. From small venues to the 3-day Night In The Country festival, there’s plenty of opportunities to enjoy country music.

For the stay and play crowd, the casinos in the area hold court when it comes to entertainment, led by the Grand Sierra Resort, with their recently completely remodeled Grand Theatre, features both regular and VIP booth seating. In downtown, the Reno Events Center hosts a diverse calendar of events from comedy to concerts. The Nugget in Sparks has a new outdoor amphitheater for summer events and concerts.

Speaking of variety, the historic gold-domed Pioneer Center in downtown Reno is the home of Broadway Comes to Reno, the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra as well as a continuous calendar of theater and musical events throughout the year.

Whatever your musical pleasure, The Reno/Tahoe area has it going on. For a full calendar of events, check out Visit Reno/Tahoe.

SFG Library: Financial Capital Reads

Here at SFG, we support an ongoing educational culture. One of the ways we do this is holding an employee book club meeting several times per year to share about nonfiction books we’ve read. Additionally, we keep a library of books in our conference room — anyone is welcome to comb through it and take a book home! These books all relate to one of our Four Capitals — Financial, Physical, Intellectual, and Psychological — and offer insight into the approach we are so committed to. Here is a list of the books we currently have related to Financial Capital.
