Psychological Space

Few things are nicer than walking into your home after a long, stressful day and immediately feeling relief. However, if your home is disorganized or filled with clutter, it can have a negative impact on your mood. You environment contributes to your overall sense of happiness and well-being, so it is important to maintain a space that brings you solace. Creating and maintaining this positive space can be a daunting task, but the outcome is usually well worth the effort.

There are many different tidying and organizing methods out there that encourage individuals to clean room-by-room or little-by-little; however, there is a new method of tidying that is quickly gaining popularity around the world. Marie Kondo is a tidying expert who wrote the #1 New York Times best-selling book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” in 2011. In January 2019, Netflix released an original series called Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. Marie Kondo’s method, the KonMari Method™, is a method for tidying up that is different from the standard “little-by-little” approach. Marie encourages people to tidy by focusing on items that give them joy.

Rather than looking at a room full of stuff and asking yourself, “What can I get rid of to make room?”, Marie Kondo invites you to focus on identifying the items that bring you joy. By holding each item and identifying if it brings you joy, there is less pressure (and negativity) to rid yourself of things just because you feel like you don’t have space. Marie Kondo also offers various folding techniques and storage ideas to help organize your belongings.

As you begin your new year with personal and professional goals, consider how a tidy environment may help you achieve them. If you would like to try the KonMari Method™ you can read “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” watch Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, or read more about it here

Making Your New Year’s Resolutions Stick

It is important to remember that the New Year isn’t meant to serve as a catalyst for sweeping character changes. It’s a time for people to reflect on their past years’ behavior and promise to make positive lifestyle changes. Setting small, attainable goals throughout the year, instead of a singular, overwhelming goal on January 1, can help you reach whatever it is you strive for.

Bond Prices and Interest Rates

It is important to understand how a rising-rate environment impacts bond prices. A principle of finance is that when interest rates go up, bond prices go down.

SFG Adopts a Family

As part of our core value “Service Heart”, SFG enjoys giving back to the community. The winter months are a good opportunity for us to help out, so that’s exactly what we’re doing. As is tradition, we adopted a family through the Northern Nevada Children’s Cabinet.
