Investments and Wealth Institute’s Annual Conference Experience 2019 (ACE) Recap
The Investments and Wealth Institute’s flagship event is their Annual Conference Experience (ACE). This conference offers four days of exposure to “the sharpest thinkers and practitioners: blending Ivy League quality education with practical application.” Alyssa had the opportunity to attend ACE this May in Las Vegas.
One of the themes that was present through many sessions was the idea of a looming recession. It is no secret that we are currently experiencing one of the longest bull markets in history. People all over the financial services industry are trying to predict when the next recession may hit. Dr. Marci Rossell, a journalist and economist, gave an engaging keynote session on economic disruptors. She stated that economic expansions do not end because of old age; rather, they are killed by an unpredictable disruption. To that note, it is impossible to predict when the next recession will be. She focused the audience on three disruptors that are occurring that may lead to market volatility, but not necessarily to a recession: Brexit, the U.S. versus China trade war, and U.S. Monetary Policy. Dr. Marci Rossell’s thoughts were echoed by Raghuram Rajan, PhD. Dr. Rajan discussed what has caused political and economic uncertainty to increase recently.
In addition to sessions on the general outlook of the U.S. and global economies, Alyssa attended various sessions on tax strategies, philanthropy, long-term care, and retirement planning. Alyssa’s favorite session was a deep dive into tax strategies with Steve Siegel, JD, LLM. This session included tax and estate planning strategies best suited for high net worth clients. She left the conference with increased exposure to various subject matters and a few tips and strategies that Schultz Financial Group will apply to our internal processes.
